The Mayor and City Council held an emergency meeting this morning at which Council joined President Trump, Governor Wolf and the Butler County Commissioners in declaring a state of emergency within the City of Butler.

In an effort to protect the health and safety of its employees and the public, Council approved the items listed below:

1. The City Building will remain open; howeer, the following restrictions will be implemented effective immediately:
   1. Public access will be limited to the foyer located on the first floor.
   2. There will be no non-essential face-to-face meeting with office staff.  Staff may be contacted via telephone and forms may be picked up in the foyer.
   3. Council encourages the public to refrain from visiting the City Building unless there is an essential purpose that requires access to the City Building.  If you have an essential purpose, lease contact the City to schedule an appointment.  Our phone number is: 724-285-4124
2. Effective immediately, all activities scheduled to occur in City parks, playgrounds, and the Farmers Market are cancelled through May 15, 2020
3. The City’s parks and playgrounds will remain open to the general public,  However, City Council strongly encourages residents to utilize the parks and playgrounds and various small groups of less than ten (10) and to practice social distancing as recommended by the State Department of Health
4. The City Council meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 26, 2020, is cancelled because City Council does not have any essential City business that needs to be acted upon at the meeting.  All other City Council meetings will be held as scheduled unless circumstances warrant cancellation.  Council will make Zoom Conferencing available to the public so that members of the public can participate in the meetings via online services.  The public will still be able to attend the public meetings at the City Building, however, Council strongly encourages the public to participate via Zoom Conferencing as a means to safeguard everyone’s safety.
