One in three homes in the City of Butler do not have a working smoke alarm!  Most residential fire fatalities occur in homes without a working smoke alarm.  Smoke alarms should be placed on each floor of the home and inside each bedroom.  Smoke alarms have a limited service life, and should be replaced every 10 years.  The City of Butler Bureau of Fire can check and install smoke alarms in your home at no cost, based on supply.  Please contact us to schedule an appointment.

Click here for the rules on recreational fires.  A permit is not required for a recreational fire. However, recreational fires are a source of numerous complaints, and can result in the fire being ordered extinguished and a citation being issued if the rules are not followed.

Families are always welcome to stop by the fire station to meet the firefighters and see the trucks.  For larger groups, please contact us to schedule a station tour.

Children playing with fire is a serious concern that should not be ignored.  It can stem from curiosity, to acting out, to thrill seeking, or delinquency.  What most people do not realize is that when a child is caught playing with fire, it is usually not the first time they did it.  Such behavior not only puts the child at risk, but the entire family is placed at a much higher risk of dying in a home fire as a result.  The City of Butler Bureau of Fire is there to help.  We will assess the situation to identify and address the root cause, as well as provide individual fire safety education for the child.  If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Hiring of Full-time and Part-time Firefighters is done through the civil service testing process. Announcement of upcoming examinations will be advertised, and posted on the City of Butler website.
